Key 68. Say ‘Please’.

I’m not asking you to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ because it’s the nice thing to do. This book isn’t about being nice. I’m suggesting it because we benefit when we say those words. Each time we use the word ‘please’ when making a request, we are acknowledge to ourselves the fact that the other person does not have to comply. We are ‘at their mercy.’ So, when the person does comply with our request, we notice it – we notice our good fortune.

It’s similar to the benefit we get when we say ‘Thank you’.

’Humility is the only true wisdom by which we prepare our minds for all the possible changes of life.’
George Arliss.
